Well folks, I had a blast at the sold out, one-night-only stage reading of “Another Gin Game” directed by Gary Kaskel. Ed Asner stole the show with his ad-libs, Ruta Lee was formidable. She even sold copies of her autobiography “Consider Your Ass Kissed” after the show. The play also featured Donte Ashon Green in a small, but effective role.
Of course, masks were required and COVID protocols were enforced. I had a rare chance to catch-up with friends and colleagues I hadn’t seen since the lockdown. Also spent a few minutes chatting with Theatre 40 artistic director, David Hunt Stafford.
Theatre 40 is an award winning professional theatre company in Beverly Hills with an up-coming 55th season. The first play announced will be presented September 16th-October 17th, 2021. “As Good As Gold” by Marilyn Anderson is a world premiere about women in Hollywood. It will be directed by Roger Weiss. Looking forward, there’s an upcoming comedy event that I’m very excited about: The new Cinelounge Outdoors will present “Good Aura Comedy” on Wednesday August 18th. Having ventured into stand-up comedy myself, this will be a real treat.
A stellar roster of comedic talent assembled for a night of laughs! Sarah Silverman, Alonzo Bodden, Beth Stelling, Rory Albanese, Anna Simeri, hosted by Sean Leary. I’m pleased that Alonzo is part of this group. I’ve been a longtime fan of his comedic gifts, and last October, I enlisted Mr. Bodden to be the emcee for a virtual fundraiser for Valley Community Healthcare. He won Season 3 on NBC’s “Last Comic Standing” and was a regular on NPR’s “Wait, Wait…. Don’t Tell Me.”
Sarah Silverman is well known to audiences as a comic who speaks her mind. She has won two prime
time Emmy Awards and hosted the Hulu streaming television late night talk show “I Love America With Sarah Silverman.” She started as a writer for Saturday Night Live. Beth Stelling is a stand-up comedian and writer. She has performed on the Netflix series “The Stand-ups.” Rory Albanese is a comic, comedy writer, TV producer, Showrunner EP, and writer. Anna Simeri is a stand-up comic and works the Improv Comedy Clubs. The host Sean Leary is a comedian who hosts and produces a biweekly show named #FreeParking at the garage in Culver City.
There will be food and beverages. Bar by Lost Property. Food by The Bombbachi Truck (Asian Fusion). Luscious, legendary Cinelounge popcorn in the house! Assisted listening available.
