Well folks, if you’re an avid fan of “American Horror Story” and the fan-favorite character “Pepper”- then you can’t miss “American Whore Story” – a new comedy solo show written and performed by Naomi Grossman. Naomi created the role of “Pepper” on the iconic Ryan Murphy television show. AWS is playing for three consecutive Thursdays June 8th, 15th and 22nd at the Skylight Theatre, directed by Ovation Award winner Richard Israel.
“American Whore Story”- AWS is the third of a trilogy of Naomi’s solo shows, “Girl in Argentine Landscape” and “Carnival Knowledge.” Her previous two shows have been critically acclaimed, including in Los Angeles, New York, London and The Edinburgh Fringe Festival.AWS is autobiographical, humorous and revealing where Grossman shares “tales of self-compromise.”
She takes the audience on a “transformative trip” as she has always been “hustling” for her career and trying to find the right man. Naomi had a series of odd jobs before landing the role of “Pepper” and her journey is colorful, to say the least. “Pepper” is the first multi-season cross-over character and allowed Naomi to play, in her own words, “the ugliest character on television”. Grossman is also Emmy nominated ” Outstanding Actress in a Short Form Comedy or Drama” for “CTRL, ALT, DELETE, workplace comedy web-series set at a women’s health clinic.
Naomi and AWS are launching “Play With Me”- a cutting edge fan experience where YOU can participate in an industry first, fan-interactive experience. A digital collection built by VRYNT,”Play With Me” is a game inspired by actual fan-art, which allows fans to create even MORE art, and participate in the creation of “her” art. It’s a blend of next gen promotion and marketing audience engagement. These are “easter eggs” direct from “American Horror Story.”
The audience is exposed to the show before its launch to help create hype; then, once they’ve experienced the show, their creations take on a whole new meaning. According to Grossman “My art inspired fan’ art… their art has inspired mine- maybe my art will inspire more? “American Whore Story” is produced by Kate Atkinson (“Part of The Plan”, ” A Very Brady Musical”) and documentary filmmaker Sarah Anthony (“Kiss The Future”) who have both partnered with Grossman under the AWS Entertainment Group Partner. opening night on June 1st 2023 was Sold Out, and the rest of the run is nearing a Sell Out.Naomi received a standing ovation, and her fans gifted her with numerous flower bouquets. I was able to congratulate Grossman and mingle with a couple folks I haven’t seen since pre-pandemic. Clearly, Naomi Grossman’s “American Whore Story” is a journey through her “history of hustling” which makes for a mighty fun ride.
